*SPOILERS*

May 10, 2010 – May 16, 2010
The Aubreyad Press Gang Epic Adventure Week Four

1. At the beginning of this chapter, a compliment from Jack has a profound effect on the master, Mr. Marshall, who is infatuated with him. Other sailors notice this but don’t condemn it. How is the attitude towards homosexuality below decks different to the official attitude found the Articles of War? Why might this be? And how is it that Jack is so oblivious to Marshall’s feelings?

2. Despite Stephen’s obvious dislike of the entire spectacle of gun practice, Jack seems to assume that Stephen has the same interest and enjoyment in it that he does. Why? Why doesn’t Stephen enlighten him? What does this say about their relationship?

3. Jack Aubrey and the members of the Royal Navy in general are always in a hurry, which is in direct opposition to Stephen’s general nature. How might this effect Stephen’s future at sea? Why does he find hurry oppressive, while Jack seems to find it invigorating?

4. What is the importance of Dillon’s actions prior to finding the John B. Christopher? What is the impact of Dillon’s experience aboard? How might this effect his fragile new friendship with Jack, and how might this effect him in general?
